Sally MacCabe - About

About

As a mixed media artist and maker I enjoy working with a variety of materials producing paintings, artists’ books, sculptures and collaged hangings. My work is often in a subtle palette of greys and soft blues and many of my abstract paintings are an intuitive exploration of a textured, mixed media painted surface where the final outcome is often unknown. Some of my recent pieces include hand stitch and textiles together with a variety of found objects and fragments of vintage papers and documents which create an interesting fusion of techniques. The use of sketchbooks is an integral part of my working process.

Originally from Oxfordshire, I moved to the Cornish seaside town of St Ives in 2000. For several years I had my own Studio Gallery in our home that overlooked the bay and harbour, and for eight years was part of Back Road Artworks, a gallery run by a collective of local artists.

In February 2021 I moved to a new studio gallery at Whites Old Workshops, Porthmeor Road (off Back Road East) in the heart of the old part of St Ives.

My work is exhibited in various galleries across the country and I am a member of the St Ives Society of Artists and an associate member of the Penwith Gallery.
