Sally MacCabe is a mixed media artist and maker working with a variety of materials producing paintings, artists’ books, sculptures and collaged hangings. Her work is renowned for its subtle palette of greys and soft blues. Many of her abstract paintings are an intuitive exploration of texture and applied ephemera where the final outcome is unknown – whereas other artworks are worked on a theme or current project. Some of her recent pieces involve stitch and fabrics which create an interesting fusion of techniques. The use of sketchbooks is an integral part of her working process.
Sally was born in Oxfordshire in 1956, and moved to St Ives in 2000. For many years she had her own studio gallery in her home on The Terrace, but she is now part of Back Road Artworks, a collective of local artists that is open daily and where a selection of her work can always be seen together with her sketchbooks and beaded jewellery.
Back Road Artworks, Back Road East, St Ives TR26 1NP (T: 01736 791571). She is a member of the St Ives Society of Artists and an associate member of the Penwith Gallery.
Sally teaches a range of mixed media workshops from the garden studio of her cottage in St Ives and visitors are also welcome by appointment.
